Cléo from 5 to 7

"Cleo from Five to Seven," which won awards at both the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals in 1962 and also received the George Méliès Award that same year, marks Vardan’s first success as a director. It tells the story of Cleo, a young and beautiful French pop singer who must confront the reality of her cancer. We experience these ninety minutes alongside Cleo as she examines her life through her own reflections.

At the same time, we are confronted with Cleo’s questions about life: What can be done at a time like this? How can it be done? Cleo questions the answers to these questions and her personal relationships. She seeks the answers to these questions both in her present life and in the people she has just met. In a film enveloped by the psychosis and fear of cancer, as time passes, we return to the streets of Paris, where various faces pass by, and to a motionless, stagnant time that has lost its meaning...
